Despite a lot of fun being had at the Dassault Systemes event Giddy Up at Gilley’s on day 2 of 3DEXPERIENCE World, users and speakers alike were ready to go at 8:30 AM for the hands-on session that our resident Large Assembly Wizard Alin Vargatu and I presented. This session was the Ultimate Guide to Optimizing Imported Geometry, and we showed users various ways that they can save on open times and operational times over the hour and a half of hands-on time with the software. Tips like this make up just one portion of our large assembly workshop and really help ease the pain of working with cumbersome step files.

3DEXPERIENCE World 2024: Day 1 Recap https://trimech.com/3dexperience-world-2024-day-1-recap/ Mon, 12 Feb 2024 19:30:03 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=67816 General Session

Monday’s General Session had a major focus on the continuous improvements to 3DEXPERIENCE and SOLIDWORKS products we’ve come to know and love. A lot of what was covered was around a central theme of incorporating Artificial Intelligence into our everyday design and engineering process to streamline and optimize going from initial concept to fully realized product. Some of the things hinted at for future updates are going to change the game from generating 3D models. The example used of generating manufacturable bookshelves and coffee tables while only providing the material and a bounding box is groundbreaking. Amongst the excitement were also some great stories from 3DEXPERIENCE and SOLIDWORKS community members and how they leverage best-in-class tools to produce their best-in-class designs.

3DEXPERIENCE World 2024

The session ended with the 2024 version of Don’t Miss This Demo where the Technical Marketing team put on another great edition and teased enhancements coming in SOLIDWORKS 2025. I won’t spoil the fun so you’ll need to go watch the recap to hear about some of the new things coming down the pike. Also, be sure to tune in tomorrow for Episode 2 of this year’s epic!

Instructional Courses and Hands-on Workshops

Each year, members of the greater SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE community come together to create and present exceptional content on topics they are passionate about: this year was no different. I managed to make my way around to a bunch of different user sessions on Day 1. After the General Session, I made my way down to a presentation on SOLIDWORKS CAM to see how to leverage automation to increase CNC Programming efficiency by using APIs. Speaking of APIs, there was another great session by Artem Taturevych who gave an introductory session to using the SOLIDWORKS API in a beginner-friendly, example-based way. There was already a ton of great content packed in and we are only through lunch!

After lunch, I hopped into a training session led by Dassault’s John Milberry who put on an incredible overview of ICAM Foundations, the post-processor technology built into 3DEXPERIENCE’s DELMIA Machining tools. His training gave a great introduction to customizing post-processors and helped solidify concepts that were a little hazy before. After John’s session, I turned my attention to my own presentation happening later in the day. In the final presentation slot for Day 1, I was able to present my Fundamentals of 3DEXPERIENCE Machining which aimed to lay a foundational understanding of the 3DEXPERIENCE CAM roles. I started with a brief overview of the portfolio and wrapped up with a simple hands-on example of bringing a model from SOLIDWORKS into DELMIA and then creating toolpaths. The response exceeded my expectations and led to some great follow-up conversations.

3DEXPERIENCE World CAM Presentation

If you are interested in hearing more about any of the topics covered by one of TriMech’s Application Engineers at this year’s conference, we’d be more than happy to discuss!

What to look for on 3DEXPERIENCE World Day 2?

Day 2 kicks off again with a General Session and serves as a continuation of today’s messaging. We then have a whole host of TriMech-led sessions on the docket. Tracy Wettig is co-presenting 101 Things Your Mother Never Told You About Mates, I’ll be back with Sarah Taylor for a Hands-on Workshop Cloud Connection: Design and Validation, and Alin Vargatu is leading the charge on his session titled Ultimate Import Geometry Optimization for Large Assemblies.

TriMech isn’t the only group of presenters tomorrow at 3DEXPERIENCE World and there are a whole host of great sessions. You’ll want to review the daily agenda yourself and find sessions that match your interests. Regardless of what you choose, you’ll for sure find yourself in a great informational session. Stay tuned for Day 2!

TriMech 3DEXPERIENCE Training and Support for the powerful platform https://trimech.com/trimech-3dexperience-training-and-support/ Wed, 07 Feb 2024 23:31:00 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=67782 Wayne White is a mechanical engineer and TriMech 3DEXPERIENCE Solutions Consultant focused on helping clients implement and maximize 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX), a cloud-based platform that gives organizations a real-time view of activities across their whole ecosystem.

Wayne White

Wayne White

Before joining TriMech in 2012, Wayne worked in companies large and small, and in industries including automotive and battery technology. This path led him to TriMech, where he began as a general application engineer supporting clients working with SOLIDWORKS desktop products. Today, he supports clients in their move to the cloud and, through training and support, ensures they take full advantage of the power of the 3DX platform.

How did you make the shift to focusing on 3DEXPERIENCE within TriMech’s collection of products and services?

I have worked for Matt Kokoski throughout my career with TriMech. Beginning about 2017, he started to ask me for help supporting 3DX because it was new at the time and he was a team of one. I was already watching the trend of everything moving to the cloud and wanted to be part of that, so eventually I asked Matt if I could work on 3DX full time.

I have used cloud-based products personally for more than 15 years and I knew the benefits related to data management and backup, and just connecting large amounts of information and making it more usable.

Plus, I liked the idea of marrying CAD with the cloud.

It can be challenging to be on the leading edge of change, since people are naturally resistant. How do you deal with this?

Some people are still resistant to moving to the cloud. That’s not unique to engineering or manufacturing – there’s a societal shift in how we’re using software.

Our most successful 3DEXPERIENCE clients are those who are willing to put some time into making a few simple changes and trying new things. You have to say, “ok, this workflow doesn’t work the same way anymore, I’m open to adapting.”

People like what they’re used to. You build a history of knowledge and skills and we’re presenting you with a different technology and asking you to retool your brain. The first hurdle is encouraging people to make a change, and we do that through education.

Do clients have misconceptions about what it means to use 3DX?

One misconception is that the cloud is not as secure as storing your data at your physical location behind a locked door. We provide clients with all the information they need about Dassault Systèmes’ ISO-certified management systems and risk management practices to protect their data and privacy.

Speaking of education, how do you support client learning?

There are several options. To start, the MySOLIDWORKS platform has excellent on-demand video content that you can watch when it suits you.

And within The TriMech Group, we have training options that are live and interactive. This gives clients a chance to ask very specific questions, which they always do.

I always recommend TriMech 3DEXPERIENCE training because this is how you will truly understand what the platform is capable of. This is how you learn to make informed decisions about how you want to use the environment to suit your specific needs. Training exposes you to features and benefits of the platform that you’re not likely to tap into otherwise.

It makes sense to invest in the best possible use of the system where all your critical data and communication is stored.

Beyond training, we’re always here to answer questions by phone or by email.

Is there an ideal client for 3DX?

Honestly, 3DX can suit the full range of clients. I will say that small- and medium-sized businesses that don’t currently have a data management solution in place are often the most ready to run with it.

Having said that, very large companies have successfully migrated their existing data into 3DEXPERIENCE; it just takes a bit of time to make the transition.

What are the most attractive features of 3DEXPERIENCE that are making clients move to 3DX as a data management solution?

The first thing I would say is that it’s data management out of the box. The second thing is that 3DX offers rules-based standardization among all users, keeping consistency across the board. 3DX is the problem-solver that leads to efficient data management and effective team collaboration.

For 25 years, people got used to managing their own data. The problem of course is that people leave organizations and trying to pick up where that person left off is a daunting task. Nobody can afford to have errors and delays because of inconsistent data management practices.

3DEXPERIENCE Platform

3DEXPERIENCE Platform

Why should people choose 3DEXPERIENCE training offered by TriMech Group?

Our training courses are home grown and continually evolving, and we bring all of our years of experience using and supporting 3DEXPERIENCE.

We’ve worked with many different types of clients and know what works best in uploading files, setting workflows and revision schemes, rules that are critical to success, etc.

In our six-hour course, for example, we outline everything the client has to look out for in order to make informed decisions about what will work in their organization. We show them the steps, and all the variables that come into play along the way.

It’s really important to consider the needs of existing SOLIDWORKS users vs. non-users, and we cater to both.

Is the 3DEXPERIENCE training content flexible enough to evolve over time?

We’re always making changes. There are common technical questions that most clients have, and we always answer those; at the same time, we definitely reconfigure the training based on interactions with clients and training participants.

Being cloud-based, 3DX itself changes more frequently that SOLIDWORKS desktop users would be used to. Adjusting the training based on platform updates is critical. I actually had a call yesterday from a client interested in taking the training for a second time.

We can add new modules or courses as new 3DX elements are introduced or as we learn more about what a certain group of clients needs. Right now, I’m working on content for more role-specific training courses.

What makes a successful learning environment for a trainee?

People should come ready to participate. I encourage a comfortable learning space by telling everyone that I also started at zero with 3DEXPERIENCE, and that all questions are welcome. Even when we’re learning together online, you can easily communicate with the instructor. I want people to ask the questions that make their learning valuable.

Businesses who invest in training and development for their people clearly demonstrate that the organization is committed to the platform and this leads to greater success overall.

Why does your team stand out?

I’m proud of the TriMech 3DEXPERIENCE training team because I feel we are among the most advanced. We can answer the basic questions about how 3DX works and we’re also well past that. We’re on top of the evolution of the platform in a proactive way. Combine that with our experience up to this point, and we can quickly solve issues that clients run into.

3DX is a massive platform with far-reaching applications and our client base is diverse. The exciting part is watching clients push the boundaries of its capabilities. Imagine an organization with more than 100 users across many different departments.

We can support any client, small or large, anywhere in the world. For me, this is special and different from my first 10 years in the business. It’s cool that I’m on calls with people in Europe, India, and China.

The software is installed on your local hard drive and connects with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform when SOLIDWORKS is running. You can learn about how the software interacts differently. The 3DEXPERIENCE version of the software is called ‘SOLIDWORKS Connected’ to denoted that it is a platform connected version. This allows you to install the software on any machine, and connect to 3DEXPERIENCE with a named user license (rather than a serial number installation)

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS licenses also include other 3DEXPERIENCE roles, most of which are browser based and work exclusively on the cloud, they are:

  • 3D Creator Role is a browser-based 3D parametric modeling role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that lets teams create conceptual and detailed designs easily (available with Standard, Professional and Premium).
  • 3D Sculptor Role is a browser-based subdivision modeling role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that lets teams create highly stylized, organically and ergonomically shaped products quickly and easily (available with Professional and Premium).

Q: Is an internet connection required to run 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS?

A: Yes, An internet connection is required. Similar to other cloud centric applications, 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS roles require an internet connection. However, they also maintain an invisible local cache on the your machine should the internet connection become unstable. You can continue working on your model and save locally until the internet connection is restored or you are ready to commit your changes.

Additionally, being a cloud centric application brings many advantages. You can install and use the SOLIDWORKS CAD on as many machines as you wish. Your data is always safe and secure on the cloud and you can instantly share your designs with your team members across your entire business ecosystem.

Q: Can you use 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS Desktop to work on the same data?

A: Yes. When files have been saved on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform they can be opened in either application and can be worked upon. A named user license of Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS is required for each user of SOLIDWORKS Desktop to enable them to manage the data on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Additionally, you should be on the latest release of SOLIDWORKS Desktop when working with Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS.

Q: Can administrators assign a different 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS role to give users access to more capabilities?

A: Yes, assuming the platform administrator has available licenses, s/he can instantly assign new licenses to users in order to give them access to more capabilities. For example, if the user already has 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Standard, the administrator can give access to 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Professional or Premium. On first consumption of the license, the license is locked for a 30-day period and therefore cannot be reassigned to a different user until the period has expired.

Q: Can templates be managed on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?

A: No. Currently templates are stored on the disk locally and referenced from the local folder.

Q: Can design libraries be managed on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?

A: No. Currently, design libraries are stored on the disk locally. Administrators may want to create a standard library on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and provide read access to the users.

Q: Can you install other SOLIDWORKS products (CAM, Plastics, Flow Simulation, Inspection, PDM, Manage) with the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS roles?

A: No, SOLIDWORKS Desktop portfolio applications such as Inspection, Composer, MBD, etc. cannot be installed with the 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS installation. They are not supported. All saved data can be easily exported in the desired format (including SOLIDWORKS file format), if the customer needs it for standalone applications or for offline collaboration.

Q: If my business has SOLIDWORKS Desktop and PDM/Manage should I switch?

A: Probably not, your business will likely have a customized PDM system to meet your requirements. 3DEXPERIENCE Works Governance is an out of the box PDM/PLM solution better suited to businesses that are new to SOLIDWORKS, or presently do not run a PDM system.

Six reasons why you should manage your CAD data on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform https://trimech.com/3dexperience-platform-solidworks-cloud-data-management/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 09:09:48 +0000 https://trimech.com/?page_id=61849

Six reasons why you should manage your CAD data on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Data Management

Products and processes are becoming increasingly more complex these days.

Juggling different disciplines, suppliers, stakeholders and manufacturers while trying to maintain your workflow and still produce innovative products is a challenging scenario.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform contains applications and solutions for every aspect of your company, so you can manage everything from one place.

You can collaborate, design, and manage your CAD data, evaluate advanced simulation, manage resources and supply chains, expand into Sub-D modelling, CAM manufacturing, and complete Engineering Change and Requirements management.

Here are 6 reasons you should manage your CAD data in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

3DEXPERIENCE Cloud Based Graphic

Cloud-based, Secure & Mobile

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform securely stores and manages all your data, with access available from any device at any time.

You can avoid hefty overheads from replacing hardware as you harness the resources of powerful PCs via a browser-based interface.

Automatic backups and infrastructure that is fully compliant to ISO data security standards protects your data from corruption and cyber attackers.

3DEXPERIENCE Integrated Graphic

Integrated and Intuitive

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is available as a browser-based or a connected desktop installation.

This means you’ll be working in familiar environments as it can be seamlessly integrated into many common CAD packages including SOLIDWORKS, as well as Microsoft Office and Windows Explorer.

You can manage revisions, lifecycles, change actions, tasks, and collaborate right from your SOLIDWORKS task pane.

With integration to Microsoft Office, you can store, manage, and preview office documents to extend into the management of your non-CAD data as well.

3DEXPERIENCE Collaborative Graphic

Collaborative

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform streamlines collaboration and communication to provide you with the fastest and most robust way to share updates directly linked to relevant data.

Post designs or markups for review, share files with external suppliers and invite external parties to collaborate on projects.

Working with the platform saves time and helps teams to work efficiently without the need to chase communications across Teams, Slack and long email chains… The connected nature of the platform means everything is stored in one place.

Regardless of whether you communicate by text, voice, or video, the platform provides you with the tools to capture your ideas, meeting notes, change actions and tasks.

3DEXPERIENCE Connected Graphic

Traceability Along the Digital Thread

Everything you capture is traceable along the Digital Thread, connecting files and people, and collating information in the same place.

The Digital Thread is the idea that seemingly disconnected, discrete pieces of data like CAD models, revisions, markups, issues, or change actions, are connected by the platform as you create them, so you can always trace your way along the thread in any direction.

With a Digital Thread that winds its way through every aspect of your projects, you can track approvals and enforce strict governance on your data to make sure the right people see the right data at the right time.

3DEXPERIENCE Searchability Graphic

Searchability

Powerful search tools help you find your data quickly, just like any strong data management system.

You can search by names, descriptions, part numbers and 6W Tags, create common searches for later use, and search across the entire platform database at once.

Tags allow you to filter and visualize your data graphically.

This way you can analyse data more intuitively, and quickly see important statistics that you wouldn’t normally be able to measure or quantify when you’re working to a tight deadline.

3DEXPERIENCE Scalability Graphic

Scalability

As a SOLIDWORKS user, managing your CAD data is the priority, but from a business standpoint, it’s just one piece of the puzzle.

Documentation and complex simulations can all be managed in the platform, alongside the ability to define product requirements and seamless integration into BOMs.

Whatever your business needs are, the platform can manage them with roles and applications.

These modular roles can be stacked up and distributed as required to create different skill profiles and customised to your benefit.

As you and your business grow, the platform evolves to provide support wherever you need it.

What is 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS? https://trimech.com/what-is-3dexperience-solidworks/ https://trimech.com/what-is-3dexperience-solidworks/#respond Mon, 22 May 2023 14:07:16 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=61100 The desktop version of SOLIDWORKS has been around for over a quarter century and has become the industry standard for parametric CAD software. But a new cloud-connected option, 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS, is on the rise and is offering clients new options and flexibility. In this article we’ll answer the question of what is 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS? Along with how this new cloud-connected license differs from the traditional desktop license.

SOLIDWORKS Desktop Licenses – Stand-Alone & Network

SOLIDWORKS desktop versions are installed on local machines. A serial number tells SOLIDWORKS if it is a stand-alone or network license, and whether it’s SOLIDWORKS Standard, Professional, or Premium. Stand-alone licenses are one seat per serial number and will function on only one machine at a time. Network licenses are pools of floating seats managed by a server machine. Clients are responsible for maintaining their own server, or servers. This can be a considerable expense for large organizations.

For smaller organizations with just a few users file management is often done just through Windows, which can be a problem if strict rules are not followed, frequent backups are not made, or hardware fails. Larger organizations usually use SOLIDWORKS PDM, or another data management system for archiving, revision control, etc. IT departments are typically tasked with maintaining this infrastructure. 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS is a cloud-based version that utilizes the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for file storage, data management, and team collaboration, along with extra features and applications. SOLIDWORKS itself is still installed locally, but installation is initiated through the platform, there is no serial number to activate or server machine to set up.

Licensing is based on the named-user model and handled through the cloud. Access is granted to users by an administrator based on the roles they have been assigned. This allows SOLIDWORKS to be installed on any number of machines, and users can simply log in whenever and wherever needed. All a user needs are internet access and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and their SOLIDWORKS license is always at hand.

Just like the desktop versions, 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS comes in Standard, Professional, and Premium tiers. Unlike the desktop versions, perpetual licenses are not available for the platform. The cost of a license is based on the roles assigned to a user. Users and roles can easily be dropped or added as needed.

This is a great option for companies looking to simplify their IT environment, since the platform handles all license and file management. It’s also a great option for users who want to be able to work from nearly anywhere. Learn more about 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Offers »

Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS

This 3DEXPERIENCE platform role provides an add-in to connect an existing desktop license of SOLIDWORKS to the platform. This makes the advantages of the platform, including cloud storage, file management, revision control, team collaboration, and more available to desktop SOLIDWORKS users. Learn more about Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS »

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Student

Students interested in obtaining their own educational license of 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS have not been left behind. This inexpensive educational license is intended for individuals, rather than for institutions needing bundles of licenses for research or teaching. There is also a traditional desktop student edition. Learn more about 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Student »

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for Makers

Technology-loving makers and hobbyists haven’t been forgotten either, as there is another affordable version of 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS tailored to them. As an added benefit, the Made in 3D Community, where makers can interact with and be inspired by each other, is provided for free. Learn more about 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for Makers »

So, what is 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS?

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS is not only a means of connecting SOLIDWORKS to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, but also the ideal software for small teams who want desktop CAD and easy collaboration on the cloud. Combining the power of SOLIDWORKS desktop with the power of the platform could be the ideal solution for those looking to simplify their SOLIDWORKS licensing and file management, while simultaneously unlocking new possibilities made available by the cloud.

What is 3DSwym and the 3DEXPERIENCE 3DSwymer Role? https://trimech.com/what-is-the-3dexperience-3dswymer-role/ https://trimech.com/what-is-the-3dexperience-3dswymer-role/#respond Wed, 26 Apr 2023 15:15:06 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=59589 On the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, a Role is a license granted to a particular user that gives them access to Apps. The 3DSwymer Role is the base Role each user must have in order to log into their Platform. So, if you want to have ten people on your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, you will need (at a minimum) 10 3DSwymer Roles. Because it is the first Role required for every user, 3DSwymer includes many basic Apps you need to get started, included the 3DSwym App.

3DSwymer role

3DSwymer Apps

Key Apps included with 3DSwymer

In the image above, you can see the list of Apps a user has access to with the Roles. Some of the most used Apps are:

  • 3DDrive – Secure cloud file storage. 3DDrive can be synced to your desktop and can store any kind of data, including CAD files and other document types.
  • 3DPlay – A browser-based file previewer. Can open 3D files (as well as non-CAD file types) and perform basic markup capabilities like measurements, section views, and annotations.
  • 3DSwym – Create and join communities to enhance collaboration across your team(s). Post updates, ideas, surveys, wikis, and more, all in the center of your interconnected 3DEXPERIENCE ecosystem.

Apps included in 3DSwymer

3DSwymer in action

Also included in the Role are some tools in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform that aren’t necessarily a standalone App – like 3DDashboard which allows you to view and create custom Dashboards, and 3DSearch which provides the ability to search all of the data in your Platform.

What does the name “3DSwymer” mean?

First of all, it’s pronounced “3D-Swimmer”. Since 2014, 3DSwym has been the home of online communities hosted by Dassault Systemes. “Swym” stands for “Say What You Mean”. Because collaboration is at the core of all 3DEXPERIENCE Platform products, we can think of 3DSwym as a central component to 3DEXPERIENCE.

So why is a user of 3DSwym called “3DSwymer”? Well, most Roles on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform have titles that are what we consider “agent nouns” in English – words that end in “-er”, “-or”, or “-ist” and represent the doer of a verb. A few examples of Roles that follow this format include “Collaborative Industry Innovator”, “Electrical Schematics Designer”, and “3D Sculptor”. When a user is assigned a Role, you can think of it as a title that generally aligns with certain duties that person may have.

New DSx Client Care & Order System for SOLIDWORKS Administrators https://trimech.com/dsx-client-care-order-system-for-solidworks-administrators/ Mon, 24 Apr 2023 12:51:52 +0000 https://trimech.com/?page_id=59415 DSx Client Care & Order is a new unified admin and support portal for all SOLIDWORKS Administrators and Subscription Service Users. Dassault Systèmes has been working towards a unified experience for all clients across all brands and services.

This initiative will allow DS and Business Partners (i.e., Distributors, Value-Added Resellers) to streamline and improve many aspects of the business, including support, subscription and training.

As a result, your organization’s SOLIDWORKS records (licensed products, contacts, etc.) will be transitioned into a new business system on April 10, 2023, and will lead to the following changes for you and your team:

SOLIDWORKS Subscription Services

With the new DSx Client Care & Order Portal you will no longer need to assign a product to a member in the SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal to grant Subscription Service benefits. Similarly, individuals will no longer need to register a SOLIDWORKS Serial Number to gain Subscription Service benefits.

Rather, entitlement will be defined at the organizational level. Your organization will be entitled to Subscription Service benefits as long as you own and maintain SOLIDWORKS products. Any contact within your organization will be considered entitled.

All individuals who were administrators or members in the SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal have already been moved to DSx Client Care and Order as contacts. You do not need to add them again and you no longer need to visit the SOLIDWORKS Customer Portal.

3DEXPERIENCE ID

When accessing the DSx Client Care & Order Portal you and your team will be prompted to authenticate with a 3DEXPERIENCE ID when accessing many of the DS websites and services, including Software Downloads, Training, Knowledge Base or Support.

Note: To log in to the DSx Client Care & Order Portal use a 3DEXPERIENCE ID, this is the same email address and password you currently use for your SOLIDWORKS ID today.

Does it matter if the passwords are different for SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE logins?

No, it doesn’t matter if the passwords are different. Only your email address matters. If you do have different passwords, use the one for your 3DEXPERIENCE ID in the 3DEXPERIENCE login screen, and the one for your SOLIDWORKS ID if you see the SOLIDWORKS login screen. You will manage these passwords separately.

How does the dual login system work?

The 3DEXPERIENCE login page communicates with the SOLIDWORKS account system. The first time you log into the 3DEXPERIENCE login page with your SOLIDWORKS ID, it finds it in the SOLIDWORKS system and creates a mirror account in 3DEXPERIENCE. Your email address is the link between the two systems. This mirror account allows you to have different passwords in the two systems.

What does the transition to the new customer record system mean for me?

People whose reseller and records have been migrated need to know about the new way subscriptions are managed. Visit the DS website to determine if your records have been migrated based on where you live or the specific reseller that supports you »

I have not been migrated. What do I need to know?

If your existing account has not been migrated, you will continue to set up your subscription by registering your serial number in the SOLIDWORKS Customer Portal, which will continue to use the SOLIDWORKS login page until the migration is complete.

How do migrated users access their Subscription Services benefits?

Migrated customers no longer need to visit or register serial numbers in the Customer Portal.

Going forward, entitlement will be defined at the organizational level. Your organization will be entitled to Subscription Service benefits as long as it owns and maintains SOLIDWORKS products. Any contact within your organization will be considered entitled.

Your individual Subscription Services benefits will now be assigned by your Administrator. When you want to access Software DownloadsTrainingKnowledge Base or Support, you simply log in and the system will look up your entitlements in the new system.

If you are new to SOLIDWORKS and your reseller and region have been migrated, you do not need to go to the Customer Portal. You create your 3DEXPERIENCE ID using the same email address that your Administrator used when they added you as a contact.

Should you have any issue with your Subscription Service benefits, please contact your SOLIDWORKS Administrator or Reseller. If you are a TriMech, Javelin, or Solid Solutions client you can contact us.

Why is this transition happening?

Dassault Systèmes (3DS) has been working towards a unified ordering and support management system to improve many aspects of their business, including the end-user experience. Their goal is to have clients across all 3DS brands serviced by a single business system. This will allow 3DS and Business Partners (i.e., Distributors, Value-Added Resellers) to give you a best in class experience.

Are more changes coming?

In the coming months, DS will slowly transition all users to DSx Client Care & Order through a phased approach to minimize disruptions.

After the migration is complete later this year (2023), the 3DEXPERIENCE login system will stop communicating with the SOLIDWORKS account system and your account will live on as a 3DEXPERIENCE ID.

Additional Tips

Here are some tips for responding to login messages and other questions about the new experience.

I am a migrated user, and I already have a 3DEXPERIENCE ID. What should I do?
  • If you only have a 3DEXPERIENCE ID, use it to log in.
  • If you have a SOLIDWORKS ID and a 3DEXPERIENCE ID with the same email address, use the 3DEXPERIENCE ID to log in.
My Subscription Service benefits don’t seem right. What should I do?

If you are a migrated user, contact your SOLIDWORKS Administrator or Reseller. If you are a TriMech, Javelin, or Solid Solutions client you can contact us.

If you are not a migrated user, make sure you have registered your serial number in the Customer Portal. For additional assistance, contact your Administrator or if you are a TriMech, Javelin, or Solid Solutions client you can contact us.

I got the message: “Welcome! We found your account, but it needs a new password” in the login screen.

Your email address is recognized, but you need to create a new 3DEXPERIENCE password to log in with it.

I got the message: “This e-mail is associated with a SOLIDWORKS ID” in the new account screen.

If you got this message when trying to create a new account with your SOLIDWORKS ID email address, it means that you do not need to create a new account. Instead, go to the login screen and enter your SOLIDWORKS ID email and password. If the password doesn’t log you in, create a new password to use in the 3DEXPERIENCE login screen.

I got the message: “Incorrect username/email or password” in the log in screen.
  1. First, make sure you have typed your SOLIDWORKS ID email address correctly. The screen will say “Welcome” to the email you typed even if the system doesn’t recognize the email address. Use the “I am not…” link to enter a different email address.
  2. Next, make sure your password is correct.
  3. If you still get this message, reset your password. Going forward you will use it in the 3DEXPERIENCE page. However, if you do not receive the password reset email, then the system is not able to recognize the email address you entered as a SOLIDWORKS ID or 3DEXPERIENCE ID, and you need to get help from your Site Administrator or VAR. You can also make sure your SOLIDWORKS ID is active by logging into the Customer Portal.
I got a message about a “technical error”.

If you get a message about a “technical error” when you try to create a new 3DEXPERIENCE ID with your SOLIDWORKS ID email address, it is possible that your SOLIDWORKS ID has not been used for a while and has been moved to an inactive state. Go to the Customer Portal and log in to reactivate it, then try logging in on the 3DEXPERIENCE page.

Is there anything else I can try?

Clearing your browser history can often eliminate random problems from previous sessions.

What should I do if I cannot log in?

SOLIDWORKS and Dassault Systèmes make it a priority to resolve any login issues as quickly as possible. Despite DS preparing for this transition, sometimes issues need to be addressed manually. If you cannot log in to the 3DEXPERIENCE login page after trying the suggestions listed above, contact your reseller. They have the experience and direct connections to SOLIDWORKS and Dassault Systèmes to help you resolve your issue.

How can I find out who my reseller is?

If you don’t know who your reseller is, please email us at: CustomerCenterSR@solidworks.com.

SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal

You will no longer use the SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal to manage your use of SOLIDWORKS products and services. The functionality in the “Members” tab will be moved to the Contact Administration Tool in DSx Client Care and Order. The Contact Administration tool allows you to view and manage the people who are associated with your organization.

As stated above, you do not need to assign products to members anymore to grant access to Subscription Services. You only need to add a contact to an entitled organization. If one of your team needs access to Subscription Services, the new process is as follows:

  1. Log in to DSx Client Care and Order
  2. Click Contact Administration from the Main Menu
  3. Add the contact
  4. Assign a role. Generally, the “Support Restricted” role is appropriate for most SOLIDWORKS users.

The contact will be considered entitled when they log in with a 3DEXPERIENCE ID using the same email address you defined when you added the contact. If they do not have a 3DEXPERIENCE ID, they can create one at any time.

As a SOLIDWORKS Administrator, you have been automatically granted the Security Administrator role for your organization, which allows you access to Contact Administration. If you do not see Contact Administration in the DSx Client Care and Order Main Menu, please contact your SOLIDWORKS Reseller.

The replacement for the “Products” tab in the Admin Portal is planned for May 2023.

CAD Admin Dashboard

The CAD Admin Dashboard will be inaccessible during this migration. DS are making every effort to restore it for migrated customers by June 2023.

Comparing Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE On Premise vs. On Cloud https://trimech.com/comparing-dassault-systemes-3dexperience-on-premise-vs-on-cloud/ https://trimech.com/comparing-dassault-systemes-3dexperience-on-premise-vs-on-cloud/#respond Mon, 24 Apr 2023 10:42:44 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=59411 With the advent of cloud computing, businesses are now faced with a choice: should they opt for on premise solutions or cloud-based platforms? This article will provide an in-depth comparison of the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE on premise and cloud solutions, highlighting their differences and helping you determine which option is best suited for your needs.

Deployment and Infrastructure

On Premise: In an on-premise setup, the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform is installed on your organization’s own servers and hardware. This requires an initial investment in infrastructure, as well as ongoing maintenance and management of the system. Which means working with partners for implementation of the functionality you want on your on-premise solution. On-premise solutions offer complete control over your data and environment, but also demand higher upfront costs and ongoing resources.

Cloud: In contrast, cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE Platforms are hosted on third-party servers and can be accessed through a web browser. This eliminates the need for significant upfront investment and reduces ongoing maintenance costs. Cloud solutions also offer scalability, allowing you to easily expand or reduce resources as needed. However, you may have less control over your data and security, depending on the provider’s policies and infrastructure.

Security and Data Privacy

On Premise: With an on-premise 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, your organization is responsible for implementing and maintaining security measures to protect your data. This allows you to customize your security protocols to meet your unique requirements. However, this also means that the burden of ensuring data privacy and compliance falls on your organization.

Cloud: When using a cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, the responsibility for data security is shared between your organization and the cloud service provider. Reputable providers adhere to strict security standards and certifications, ensuring a high level of protection for your data.

Cost and Flexibility

On Premise: On-premise 3DEXPERIENCE Platforms typically involve higher upfront costs, including the purchase of hardware and software licenses, implementation, as well as ongoing maintenance and support expenses. However, these costs can be more predictable and consistent over time. On-premise solutions often require long-term commitments, which may not suit businesses looking for flexibility.

Cloud: Cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE Platforms operate on a subscription basis, which usually results in lower upfront costs. Ongoing expenses are based on usage and can be scaled up or down as needed. This flexibility makes cloud platforms an attractive option for businesses with variable demands or those seeking to minimize capital expenditure.

Collaboration and Accessibility

On Premise: While on-premise 3DEXPERIENCE Platforms can support collaboration, they often require additional setup and configuration to enable remote access. This may limit the platform’s accessibility for external collaborators or remote team members.

Cloud: Cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE Platforms are designed to support collaboration and accessibility from the outset. As they are accessed through a web browser, team members can collaborate and share information from any location, as long as they have an internet connection. This makes cloud solutions an ideal choice for organizations with dispersed teams or those working with external partners.

3DEXPERIENCE On Premise or On Cloud Conclusion

Choosing between an on-premise and cloud-based Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Platform depends on your organization’s unique needs and priorities. On-premise solutions offer greater control over your environment and data, while cloud platforms provide flexibility, scalability, and easy collaboration. By considering factors such as infrastructure, security, cost, and accessibility, you can make an informed decision about which option is best suited for your organization. Ultimately, understanding the technical specifics of each deployment option will help you select the most appropriate solution to support your organization’s growth and achieve your business objectives.
