The educational presentations, hands-on sessions, and interactive booths in the Playground all demonstrate the breadth and depth of the 3DEXPERIENCE and SOLIDWORKS community.

3DEXPERIENCE World General Session

This morning’s General Session highlighted a few previews of enhancements we can look forward to in future releases of SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, and featured a few keynote speakers. One of my favorite speakers was Aneesa Muthana, CEO and Co-Owner of Pioneer Service Inc. and M&M Quality Grinding, who spoke about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the manufacturing and design industries.

Another favorite speaker of mine was Thomas Silva from Endiatx, who introduced the crowd to their robot pill endoscope which, after it is swallowed, takes pictures of a patient’s digestive system in a quick and non-invasive manner. Manish Kumar, the SOLIDWORKS CEO, also showed off to the crowd, with his moon-walking dance skills!

Model Mania

For SOLIDWORKS newbies and veterans alike, Model Mania is the most fun way to put SOLIDWORKS skills to the test. I took a stab at the modeling challenge this morning, but I’ll have to wait until lunchtime tomorrow for the results to be presented. The winner will be whoever re-created the model to the highest accuracy, the fastest!

Breakout Sessions

I stopped into two breakout sessions. The first was “SOLIDWORKS for Seamsters” by Rachael Naoum, where Rachael was sporting some brand new shoes that she designed and handmade with the help of SOLIDWORKS. The second was “101 Things Your Mother Never Told You about Mates” by Tracy Wettig and Chris Brooking. I was so proud to see my own manager, Tracy, rocking it with the assembly mate tips and tricks in front of a packed room!

Fun in the Playground

The 3DEXPERIENCE Playground has a variety of exhibitor booths. The R2D2 and Wall-E model robots made me smile. There was even a real robot (or, a robot arm) decorating cookies with the power of DELMIA!

Hands-on Session

I assisted Sawyer Gara with his hands-on session, “Cloud Connection: Design and Validation”, where he introduced two 3DEXPERIENCE Platform apps, xDesign and Linear Structural Validation. For many of the students, it was their first time using 3DEXPERIENCE Platform tools, and Sawyer led them through the modeling and simulation workflow with great success!

What is 3DSwym and the 3DEXPERIENCE 3DSwymer Role? https://trimech.com/what-is-the-3dexperience-3dswymer-role/ https://trimech.com/what-is-the-3dexperience-3dswymer-role/#respond Wed, 26 Apr 2023 15:15:06 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=59589 On the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, a Role is a license granted to a particular user that gives them access to Apps. The 3DSwymer Role is the base Role each user must have in order to log into their Platform. So, if you want to have ten people on your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, you will need (at a minimum) 10 3DSwymer Roles. Because it is the first Role required for every user, 3DSwymer includes many basic Apps you need to get started, included the 3DSwym App.

3DSwymer Apps

Key Apps included with 3DSwymer

In the image above, you can see the list of Apps a user has access to with the Roles. Some of the most used Apps are:

  • 3DDrive – Secure cloud file storage. 3DDrive can be synced to your desktop and can store any kind of data, including CAD files and other document types.
  • 3DPlay – A browser-based file previewer. Can open 3D files (as well as non-CAD file types) and perform basic markup capabilities like measurements, section views, and annotations.
  • 3DSwym – Create and join communities to enhance collaboration across your team(s). Post updates, ideas, surveys, wikis, and more, all in the center of your interconnected 3DEXPERIENCE ecosystem.

Also included in the Role are some tools in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform that aren’t necessarily a standalone App – like 3DDashboard which allows you to view and create custom Dashboards, and 3DSearch which provides the ability to search all of the data in your Platform.

What does the name “3DSwymer” mean?

First of all, it’s pronounced “3D-Swimmer”. Since 2014, 3DSwym has been the home of online communities hosted by Dassault Systemes. “Swym” stands for “Say What You Mean”. Because collaboration is at the core of all 3DEXPERIENCE Platform products, we can think of 3DSwym as a central component to 3DEXPERIENCE.

So why is a user of 3DSwym called “3DSwymer”? Well, most Roles on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform have titles that are what we consider “agent nouns” in English – words that end in “-er”, “-or”, or “-ist” and represent the doer of a verb. A few examples of Roles that follow this format include “Collaborative Industry Innovator”, “Electrical Schematics Designer”, and “3D Sculptor”. When a user is assigned a Role, you can think of it as a title that generally aligns with certain duties that person may have.

Utilizing Ideas in 3DEXPERIENCE 3D Swym https://trimech.com/utilizing-ideas-in-3dexperience-3d-swym/ https://trimech.com/utilizing-ideas-in-3dexperience-3d-swym/#respond Mon, 24 Apr 2023 09:45:57 +0000 https://trimech.com/?p=59401 Ideas are a special kind of post that can be created in 3D Swym on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Unlike a simple text post, Ideas can be pushed through different statuses to track progress on new designs, projects, or other processes.

Setting up the Idea Pipeline in 3D SWYM

Every community starts with three default statuses in the Idea Pipeline. In the Community Settings, the default statuses are shown under Idea Status Management. The default statuses are “New Idea”, “Concept”, and “Project Plan”.

The number of Statuses, their titles, colors, and order, can all be customized. In the image below, you can see an updated version of the Idea Pipeline after I made some changes.

By using different terminology and color-coding, the Idea Pipeline can take on different meanings, such as tracking new design ideas, project timelines, new employee onboarding steps, or progress towards just about any goal.

Creating an Idea

After setting the post type to Idea (by selecting the blue lightbulb icon), creating an Idea is just like making any other post. Add a Title and Body and attach images or 3D files if you’d like.

After clicking Publish, the Idea is posted and is automatically assigned the first status in the Idea Pipeline. In the screenshot below, we can see this new idea is given the “New Project” status.

As with other kinds of posts, users can like and comment on Ideas.

TIP: Likes and Comments from team members could be used as a way to “vote” for which idea gets to proceed to the next status in the Pipeline.

Changing the Status of an Idea

To move an Idea to a different status, click on the Title of the Idea. You will then be able to see the full pipeline.

Select the status you wish to change to, and then enter a comment to add context for your team. Ideas can be moved to any state (i.e. forward or backward) and can always be set to “Out” by selecting the grey X at the end of the pipeline. Comments will be automatically generated each time the idea status is changed so that users can look back on the progress this Idea has made.

Overview of all ideas within a Community

To access a high-level overview of all of the ideas in a community, the first step is to activate the Ideas Filter in the upper right corner of the community. After doing so, all other post types are hidden, plus the idea pipeline appears on the right and shows the current status for every idea in the community.

In conclusion, utilizing the Idea Pipeline in 3DEXPERIENCE 3DSWYM provides professionals with a valuable platform to brainstorm, collaborate on new ideas, and effectively track their progress. By harnessing the power of this innovative tool, individuals can unlock their creative potential, foster teamwork, and enhance productivity. Learn more about the platform and its tools by taking one of our 3DEXPERIENCE Platform training courses led by certified experts.
